A plantation of broadleaf trees will provide timber for future generations of craftsmen. This benefits the environment, replaces resources and gives an added dimension to future pieces of furniture by knowing the origin of the timber. Many furniture makers plant trees as a matter of course, some on a larger scale.

‘Hurricane & Lilliput chairs’ by Senior & Carmichael

These chairs are constructed from a combination of hardwoods salvaged from the 1987 hurricane.

When trees mature they need to be harvested before they die. Even when natural catastrophes strike,  such as Dutch elm disease or the 1987 hurricane, craftsman can turn disaster into something to celebrate – furniture that will last for generations.
